Introduction and practical workshop with Fika
Wednesday 16.09. | 17:30-19:00 @Konstmuseet
Frevo is a vibrant dance and music tradition from Pernambuco, especially the city of Recife. It emerged in the late 19th century from street processions, where marching bands, capoeira movements and carnival energy fused into a fast, electrifying form.
The session begins with a short introduction to its historical context and distinctive features — rapid rhythms, syncopated brass music and the iconic small umbrella used by dancers. We then move into a practical workshop: participants explore basic steps, balance, and dynamic movement combinations inspired by Frevo. No previous experience is required.
The workshop concludes with a shared Fika — a moment to rest, exchange impressions and let the body come back to stillness.
Open to all. No prior knowledge required.
