FOOTNOTES FOR…
Walking tours · Discussions · Presentations · Artistic urban and spatial research
As part of the ›PRINTS OF TIME — Where past, present, and future interweave together and collective encounters turn moments into stories‹ residency at the Skövde Art Museum, Frankfurt-based architect and artist Harald Etzemüller will be developing a series of walks, discussions and presentations in September and October 2026.
Under the working title ›Footnotes for…‹, Etzemüller conceives of walking as an artistic practice of observation, discovery and collective thinking. The city is viewed not merely as a built environment, but as a multi-layered archive in which past decisions, present realities of life and possible futures overlap. Small details, unassuming places, changes, breaks and personal memories can thus become a city’s ›footnotes‹.
›Footnotes for…‹ began in April 2026 at the SUPERMARKET Independent Art Fair in Stockholm and subsequently travelled to Frankfurt am Main and London. At each of these venues, Harald Etzemüller developed site-specific walking tours that explored questions of architecture, the urban landscape, the body, time, perception and change. With this series in Skövde, this artistic practice is now being continued and, at the same time, expanded to include new themes and formats within the context of the ›PRINTS OF TIME‹ residency.
The walking tours invite participants to rediscover Skövde with open eyes and heightened awareness. They do not follow a traditional guided tour format nor do they impart fixed knowledge about the city. Rather, observations, conversations and unexpected connections emerge along the way. Walking together thus becomes a temporary artistic space in which different perspectives on the city converge.
The walks are complemented by discussions and presentations that draw on Etzemüller’s artistic and architectural research projects: ranging from the relationship between modernity and the present day, through the disappearance of places and landscapes, to safe havens, the perception of landscape and the traces of time in the built environment.
At the heart of this is always the question of how we perceive our surroundings, what stories are inscribed within them, and what we might see there if we step outside our usual perspectives.
The events are aimed at anyone who fancies walking through Skövde with open eyes, observing together, asking questions and engaging in conversation about the city, architecture, landscape and time. No prior knowledge is required.
